Jason Chukwuma Njoku (born 11 December 1980) is a British-Nigerian businessman popularly known as the co-founder and CEO of iROKOtv, a video-on-demand service for Nigerian movies.
Early Life
Jason Njoku was born and raised in Deptford, South East London. He has three sisters and a brother. He attended school in London before moving to a village in Nigeria at 12. When he was 15, he moved back to London to complete his A-Levels and later gained a place at The University of Manchester to study Chemistry.
Career
In 2005, Jason Njoku graduated with a 2:1. He launched a student publication, Brash Magazine, which ran for three years before it closed in 2008. Between 2005 and 2010, he started several failed enterprises, including a blog network, a t-shirt business and a web design company.
Jason Njoku and his former partner, Bastian Gotter, launched NollywoodLove, a YouTube channel, in 2010. That same year, series A investment of $3 million was secured from Tiger Global, and the company launched a standalone video-on-demand movie platform, iROKOtv, on 1 December 2011.
In July 2012, Jason Njoku was cited by Forbes Africa as one of the 'Ten Young African Millionaires to Watch'. On 29 August 2013, he was named the CNBC All Africa Business Awards Young Leader of the Year for West Africa. Jason Njoku has also been named one of Fast Company's Top 1000 Most Creative People in Business.
Personal Life
Jason Njoku married Nigerian movie actress and producer Mary Njoku on 18 August 2012. They have three children together, Nwakaego Annabel Njoku, Jason Obinna Njoku, and Nnenna Amber Njoku.
