Rema
Divine Ikubor (born 1 May 2000), professionally known as Rema, is a Nigerian singer and rapper. He rose to fame after his eponymous debut EP became an international hit.
Early Life
Ikubor was born into a Christian family in Benin City. He attended Ighile Group of Schools in Edo State for his primary and secondary education. He started singing and rapping while in secondary school under the stage name "Blitz". At age 14, Ikubor adopted the stage name "Rema".
Career
Before starting his solo career, Ikubor and Alpha P formed the duo band RNA.
Rema signed with D’Prince’s record label Jonzing World, a subsidiary of Mavin Records, in 2019. Under the label, he released his first EP "Rema" in 2019 which debuted at number one on Apple Music Nigeria charts. "Iron Man" from the EP was included on Barack & Michelle Obama's Summer Playlist 2019, that August.
Rema was nominated for Best Viewers Choice: International Act at the 2020 BET Award. His single "Beamer" was included in the soundtrack of EA's video game FIFA 21.
In 2021, he was nominated for a MOBO Award for Best African Music Act. British record producer, JAE5 collaborated with Rema and Skepta on his single "Dimension".
