Ayra Starr
Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe (born 14 June 2002), known professionally as Ayra Starr, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. In 2022, she achieved mainstream international recognition with the release of her song "Rush."
Early Life
Ayra Starr was born and raised in Cotonou, Benin before moving to Lagos, Nigeria. She is a native of Kwara, Nigeria. She is one of four children. She has a bachelor's degree in International Relations and Political Science from Les Cours Sonou University in Cotonou.
Career
Ayra Starr began singing in a high school choir and writing songs with her brother at ten. In January 2021, she signed with Nigerian record label Mavin Records and released her debut self-titled extended play, Ayra Starr, the same month. She co-wrote four of five songs on the EP with her brother, Milar.
On 6 August 2021, her debut studio album, 19 & Dangerous, featuring artists such as Fousheé and CKay, was released. On 16 September 2022, she released "Rush" as part of the 19 & Dangerous deluxe. On 10 November 2022, Ayra Starr appeared on "2 Sugar", a track from Wizkid's fifth studio album "More Love, Less Ego".
Ayra Starr's second studio album "The Year I Turned 21" was released on 31 May 2024. The album includes collaborations with Seyi Vibez, Coco Jones, Giveon, Asake, Anitta and Rauw Alejandro. She collaborated with Coldplay on the song "Good Feelings" from their album "Moon Music" and performed as a supporting act for the band’s Music of the Spheres World Tour in Australia and New Zealand.
